October in Southwest Ohio & Northern Kentucky is gate season, from a state route in Warren County to a zoo in Cincinnati. Must See is Ohio Renaissance Festival, weekends and Labor Day from September 5 through November 1, at Renaissance Park, 10542 East State Route 73 in Waynesville, with the opening gate at 10:30 a.m.

The other picks are Kings Island Halloween Haunt, select nights from September 25 through October 31, at Kings Island, 6300 Kings Island Drive in Mason; Jack O'Lantern Glow, October 2 through October 31, at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, 3400 Vine Street in Cincinnati; Lucas Brothers Fall Festival, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from September 25 through October 25 at 3269 Ferry Rd in Bellbrook; and Operation Pumpkin, October 9 through October 11, on the High and Court Streets corridor at 1 High Street in downtown Hamilton.

Fairborn Halloween Festival runs October 16 through October 18 on the Main Street corridor in downtown Fairborn. Ohio Sauerkraut Festival is October 10 and October 11 on Historic Main Street in downtown Waynesville. Blackwood Manor runs select nights from October 9 through November 1 at 5679 Webster Street in Dayton.
